St. Jude Medical Headquarters

Little Canada, MN
Project Type: Office

Development Overview

St. Jude Medical is a publically traded company with 14,000 employees worldwide. In 2006 they began planning a 350,000 square foot expansion to their corporate headquarters on County Road B2 in Little Canada, MN. An Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) was prepared by Loucks Associates to assess the environmental impacts of the proposed project.

Project Scope

Mr. Spack prepared the traffic impact section of the EAW. A traffic impact study was prepared to analyze the traffic impacts of expanding the headquarters campus. Nine intersections were analyzed in the morning and evening peak hours. Improvements were recommended for the site's access intersections and the nearby Rice Street/County Road B2 intersection. The study also found the nearby Highway 36/Rice Street interchange was congested in the current conditions.

Accomplishments

The traffic impact study prepared for the study area was a component of the final EAW. The EAW was approved in 2007 and the headquarters addition was built in 2008. MnDOT is in the process of improving the Highway 36/Rice Street interchange.
