Development Overview
Minnesota Independent School District 112 proposed to build a new high school on Lyman Boulevard in Chanhassen. The high school is designed to accommodate 2,000 students. An Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) was prepared by Braun Intertec to assess the environmental impacts of the proposed school.
Project Scope
Mr. Spack prepared the traffic impact section of the EAW. A traffic impact study was prepared for the school that addressed the traffic operations internal to the site as well as five external intersections. Analysis of the external intersections required accounting for the impact of large nearby developments and the new alignment of Highway 212. Operations of the study intersections were analyzed in the morning and evening peak hours as well as the 2:30 to 3:30 hour when the students were dismissed. In order to accommodate the traffic generated by the school, additional turn lanes were recommended at the five intersections and installation of new traffic signals was recommended at two of the intersections. Mr. Spack presented the traffic study process and findings at two public hearings.
Accomplishments
The traffic impact study prepared for school was a component of the final EAW. The EAW was approved in 2007 and the school will be open for the 2009/2010 school year.
